Project Results Brief – Ethiopia

Strengthening Nutrition & Food Security

In Ethiopia, malnutrition and food insecurity remain significant challenges, particularly for women and children. The CAtalyzing Strengthened policy aCtion for heAlthy Diets and resiliencE (CASCADE) Project is working to strengthen food and nutrition policies, enhance multi-sectoral coordination, and promote healthier diets through evidence-based interventions. By engaging with government institutions, civil society organizations, and local communities, CASCADE is increasing access to nutritious foods, supporting gender-sensitive nutrition strategies, and building resilience against economic and climate-related shocks.

CASCADE is playing a key role in strengthening Ethiopia’s food and nutrition security efforts, including supporting the adaptation of Ethiopian Food-Based Dietary Guidelines in Amhara, developing a food safety manual in collaboration with universities and regional partners, and promoting nutrient-rich food production. The project is also improving agricultural input supply systems and enhancing local food markets to ensure sustainable access to diverse diets.
